From swimming pool to community stage: a turnkey AV install for Mercer Hall.

Mercer Hall reopens as a multi-use community venue inside Hyndburn Leisure’s leisure complex in Accrington. We won the competitive tender for the full AV and stage package: a system designed to support a broad range of community programming and to be operated, day to day, by the in-house team.

Chapter 01 BRIEF

A community hall, re-imagined for live events

From swimming pool to stage

The tender

A turnkey AV package for a re-purposed main hall

Mercer Hall’s main hall was previously a swimming pool inside Hyndburn Leisure’s wider complex. As part of the first phase of works, the room was redesigned around a reinstated dance floor to host live music, theatre, community gatherings and hires. We weren’t involved in the building works themselves; the AV package picked up from there.

Hyndburn Leisure put a competitive tender out for the stage, audio and lighting that would turn the room into a working events venue. The brief was clear: cover a wide range of events, run reliably with minimal technical support, and stand up to community use rather than touring rigor.

Chapter 02 BUILD

A single rig, one brand per discipline

Audio, lighting and a stage, designed to run themselves

The install

A rig that any in-house team can operate

Audio centres on an Allen & Heath QU5 desk at front of house with DX168 stage boxes, paired with a Martin Audio Blackline PA: ground-stacked subs and pole-mounted XP12 tops either side of the stage. Yamaha wedge monitors cover the performers.

Lighting is built around a Chamsys MQ50 desk driving a rig of Chauvet Ovation Fresnel fixtures.

A four-channel wireless mic system, four Shure SM58s, BSS DI boxes, mic stands, and a full cable loom live in production drawers backstage. The result is a venue that can run typical events end-to-end without calling in a technician.
